# Create a product catalog

> Pick products and collections from your store and build a shoppable catalog flipbook from them.

A product catalog builds its pages from products in your store. Each product gets a card with its image, title, description and price, linked to its product page.

## Build the catalog

1. In Neo Product Catalog Flipbook, go to **Flipbooks** and click the **Create flipbook** button.
2. Under **Source**, on the **Product catalog** card, click **Choose products**.
3. Click **Select collections**, **Select products**, or both. Shopify’s picker opens.
4. Pick what you want, then confirm your choice in the picker.
5. Check the **Selected collections:** and **Selected products:** lists. Click the X on an item to remove it.
6. Click **Build catalog**.
7. Design the catalog and check the preview, then click **Create flipbook** in the save bar at the top of the page.

## What you can pick

| Limit                      | Amount    |
| -------------------------- | --------- |
| Collections                | Up to 50  |
| Products picked one by one | Up to 250 |
| Products in one catalog    | Up to 250 |

If your collections and products add up to more than 250 products, the catalog keeps the first 250 and says “A catalog holds up to 250 products, so only the first 250 are included.”

Only active products are included. The product picker doesn’t show draft or archived products, and inactive products in a collection are skipped. If you open a picker again, what you already picked stays, and new items are added at the end.

## Product order

Products from collections come first, in the order you picked the collections and in each collection’s own sort order. Products you picked one by one come next.

To change the order of products you picked one by one, drag their tiles under **Selected products:**. Products that come from a collection can’t be reordered.

## If the catalog can’t be built

A banner headed “This catalog could not be built” shows one of these messages:

| Message                                                                                                | What to do                                                               |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| “That selection has no active products in it. Pick something else, or publish the products you meant.” | Pick active products, or set the products you want to Active in Shopify. |
| “Could not read your products. Try again in a moment.”                                                 | Wait a moment, then click **Build catalog** again.                       |
| “Could not open the Shopify picker. Try again.”                                                        | Click the button again. If it keeps happening, reload the page.          |

## After you build it

The catalog starts with the **Line sheet** template and the title “Product catalog”. Change the cover, theme, colors and layout on the **Catalog** tab. The 25-page limit on the Free plan doesn’t apply to product catalogs.

The catalog is a copy of your products from when you built it. If you change a product in Shopify later, refresh the catalog to show the change. See [Keep your catalog up to date](https://docs.neoflipbook.com/product-catalogs/keep-up-to-date/).
