You upload files while you create a PDF or image flipbook, on the **Select a PDF** or **Select images** step. PDF flipbooks take a PDF, and image flipbooks take JPG or PNG images.

## Upload a PDF or image

1. Start a flipbook from the **PDF flipbook** or **Image flipbook** card. See [Create from a PDF](https://docs.neoflipbook.com/create-flipbooks/from-a-pdf/) or [Create from images](https://docs.neoflipbook.com/create-flipbooks/from-images/).
2. Click **Upload PDF** or **Upload image**, then choose a file on your computer.
3. Under **Save to**, choose **Shopify Files** or **Managed storage**.
4. Click **Upload**.

While the file uploads, you see “Uploading… 45%” and a progress bar. When every byte is sent, the text changes to “Finishing up…” while the file is saved. The file is then added to **Your files** and selected for you.

You upload one file at a time. For an image flipbook, repeat the steps for each image. To pick a different file before uploading, click **Cancel**.

## Shopify Files or Managed storage

| Option | What the app says |
| --------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Shopify Files** (selected by default) | “Saved to your store’s Files. Files can be up to 20 MB.” |
| **Managed storage** | “Saved with Neo Flipbook, separate from your store’s Files. Files can be up to 100 MB.” |

Choose **Shopify Files** to keep the file with your store’s other files, under **Content → Files** in your Shopify admin. Choose **Managed storage** for files over 20 MB, or to keep flipbook files apart from your store’s Files. Managed storage files are listed on the [Assets page](https://docs.neoflipbook.com/files/assets-page/) and can’t be deleted while a flipbook uses them.

## Large files

- **Over 20 MB:** **Shopify Files** is turned off, **Managed storage** is selected, and you see “This file is larger than Shopify’s 20 MB limit, so it will be saved to Managed storage.”
- **Over 100 MB:** you see “Files over 100 MB can’t be uploaded.” and the **Upload** button is turned off. Make the file smaller, for example by compressing the PDF, then try again.

> **How megabytes are counted**
>
> The limits count 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes, so 20 MB is 20,000,000 bytes. Some computers, Windows in particular, count 1 MB as 1,048,576 bytes and show a smaller number. A file that Windows shows as 19.5 MB is over the 20 MB limit here.

## If an upload fails

| Message | What to do |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| “Shopify is still processing this file. Try again shortly.” | Wait a minute, then try again. |
| “Shopify rejected the upload.” or “The upload was rejected. Try again.” | Try again. If it keeps failing, choose the other **Save to** option. |
| “Only PDF, JPEG and PNG files can be uploaded.” | Save the file as a PDF, JPG or PNG and upload it again. |
| “Upload failed.” or “Could not reach the server. Check your connection.” | Check your internet connection, then try again. |
