Files and storage
PDF and image flipbooks are built from files. When you choose a PDF or images while creating a flipbook, each file comes from one of three places.
Three places a file can live
Section titled “Three places a file can live”| Shopify Files | Managed storage | A link | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it’s stored | Your store’s Files | With the app, separate from your store’s Files | Your own website or file host |
| Largest file | 20 MB | 100 MB | Up to your host |
| How it gets there | Upload it in the app, or it’s already in your store | Upload it in the app | Paste the link in the app |
| Where you manage it | Content → Files in your Shopify admin | The app’s Assets page | Your host |
| Protected while a flipbook uses it | No | Yes | No |
Uploads go to Shopify Files unless you choose Managed storage. A file over 20 MB goes to Managed storage automatically. In the Your files list, Managed storage files have a Managed storage badge, pasted links have a Link badge, and Shopify files have no badge.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Deleting a flipbook doesn’t delete its files. You can tidy up Managed storage on the Assets page.
- Anyone who has a file’s address can open it, so don’t use files you need to keep private.
- Product catalogs don’t use these files. Product images come from your products, and a custom cover image is saved to Shopify Files.
